Jon Alvino

Jon Alvino began his union career, entering the SMART Local 9 Sheet Metal Apprenticeship program in 2011. From the moment he joined, Jon immediately recognized the numerous benefits of working under a collective bargaining agreement, both financially and in terms of working conditions. He was particularly drawn to the union's robust training programs, higher wages, and employer-paid health care, which solidified his commitment to the union cause.

As an apprentice, Jon became highly involved in recruitment efforts and took an active role in advocating for workers' rights. He provided testimony against right-to-work laws and participated in organizing efforts at every opportunity. In 2015, Jon was named a delegate to the Denver Area Labor Federation (DALF) to represent SMART Local 9 sheet metal workers.

In the fall of 2017, Jon was appointed as the Business Representative of SMART Local 9, a role that he embraced with dedication. His hard work and leadership were recognized, and in July 2021, Jon was elected as the business manager of SMART Local 9. In less than a decade, he had ascended from a first-year apprentice to becoming the leader of a statewide local with nearly 1,500 members.

Jon's commitment to improving the lives of workers has been unwavering. He always strives to be as involved as possible in supporting workers and helping them achieve better working conditions, wages, and benefits. In early 2023, Jon was elected president of the Denver Area Labor Federation. He was reelected for a second term in February 2025, continuing his work to advocate for workers across the Denver metro area.

Jon feels deeply honored to represent the labor movement and strives to create a level playing field where all workers have the opportunity to thrive.
